November is Adopt A Senior Pet Month! This is a special cause, and one that we are happy to support. Senior cats make wonderful animal companions! However, they often have a very hard time getting adopted, simply because so many people pass them over in favor of kittens. Kitty Comforts
Small touches will help turn your home into a luxury palace for your pet. Set out some pet ramps or stairs to help Fluffy get to her favorite perches. A litterbox with low sides is also a good idea: these are easier for senior cats to manage. You’ll also want to set out lots of comfy beds for your feline buddy to snuggle up in.
Coming Home
You may want to put these things in a quiet back room at first, to give your furry buddy a place to settle in. If you have other pets, make introductions slowly, over the course of several days.
Food
It’s very easy for older kitties to pack on extra pounds. After all, they spend most of their time napping! Offer your feline friend a high-quality senior cat food. Treats are fine, but don’t go overboard. Ask your vet for specific advice.
Veterinary Care
One of the first things you’ll want to do is make an appointment with the vet. Fluffy will most likely already be fixed, but she will need a full exam.
