No loving pet parent ever wants to face a veterinary emergency, but the fact is accidents happen and sudden, unexpected illnesses and injuries occur. It’s important to know who you can turn to in the event that your animal companion requires urgent medical attention. It can truly mean the difference between life and death for your cherished friend.

Waccamaw Regional Veterinary Center is equipped to provide critical care services any time that they are needed during our normal office hours. Our dedicated team is experienced and prepared to step in at a moment’s notice, delivering the emergency medical, diagnostic and/or surgical care necessary to get the situation under control and improve the chances of a positive outcome.

Should an emergency occur outside of our regular office hours, we are happy to refer you to a local 24/7 facility that is staffed by experienced doctors and nurses who are committed to providing the attention and treatment your pet needs, anytime – day or night.

Some of the signs that your pet may need urgent medical attention include, but are not limited to:

  • Difficulty breathing
  • Choking
  • Vomiting or diarrhea containing blood or lasting more than 24 hours
  • Cuts, lacerations or puncture wounds
  • Traumatic injury, such as a fall or being hit by a car
  • Broken bones
  • Ingestion of a toxic substance or foreign object
  • Difficulty urinating
  • Swollen abdomen
  • Disorientation
  • Lameness
  • Unconsciousness
  • Seizures

If you notice your pet exhibiting any of these signs or symptoms, give us a call immediately. We always recommend calling ahead whenever possible because this allows us to assess the situation, provide advice and guidance over the phone, and prepare the hospital for your pet’s arrival. Of course, if the situation is too urgent to allow for a phone call, do not hesitate to bring your pet directly in for immediate attention.
